Let's find the slope of this line:

the graph of a line passing through the points ( -1 , 4 ) and ( 2 , -2 )

we see the vertical change (or the "rise") is down 6 and the horizontal change (or the "run") is over 3

slope = rise / run = -6 / 3 = -2 ...the slope is negative...and the line is going downhill


YOUR TURN:

Graph the line that passes through the points

( 0 , -3 ) and ( 5 , 4 )

Then, use the graph to find the slope.
