Here's another one:

Find the equation of the line that passes through the point
( -5 , 2 ) with a slope of -3 / 4 :

y - y1 = m( x - x1 )  ...  y - 2 = -( 3 / 4 )( x - ( -5 ) )  ...  y - 2 = -( 3 / 4 )( x + 5 )  ...  easiest to ditch the 4 first!

4y - 8 = -3( x + 5 )  ...  4y - 8 = -3x - 15  ...  4y = -3x - 7  ...  y = -( 3 / 4 )x - 7 / 4

YOUR TURN:

Find the equations of the lines:

m = 3 passing through ( -2 , 6 )

m = 2 / 5 passing through ( 1 , -8 )
