Maximums and Minimums: Finding Relative Extrema

Now, for the relative minimums...  These are the bottoms of the valleys:

the relative minimums of the graph are -3 at x = -1 and -1 at x = 4 ... we don't care about points in the interval ( -3 , -infinity )
 

Relative mins are the lowest points in their little neighborhoods.

f has a relative min of -3 at x = -1.
f has a relative min of -1 at x = 4.
